Introduction
Surface-mount three-electrode gas discharge tube surge protection device in a miniature 2036 TRIGARD series design, suitable for pick-and-place manufacturing processes. The device is ideal for board-level protection in high-bandwidth applications such as xDSL, wired broadband, and high-speed Ethernet. It features high energy handling capability, long service life with stable performance, capacitance below 2 pF, and a diameter of only 5 mm. The device acts as a "crowbar," forming a short circuit to ground upon conduction to prevent damage from transient disturbances. When a voltage transient surge exceeds its defined breakdown voltage level, the device ionizes and conducts within microseconds. After the surge, the system voltage returns to its normal level and the device reverts to a high-impedance state.
