Introduction
Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) circuit protection devices safely dissipate surge energy within a sealed plasma gas environment. GDTs are commonly used to protect sensitive telecommunications and networking equipment and lines from damage caused by lightning strikes and equipment switching operations. The Littelfuse GDT series described in this document is available in a variety of leaded and surface-mount configurations, with or without a fail-safe clip. For more information, refer to the electrical specifications, dimensions, and packaging options sections of this document. The SL1021A/B series GDTs are designed to provide a high level of performance against fast-rising transients in the range of 100V/μS to 1KV/μS, which are most likely generated by induced lightning surge interference. These devices feature ultra-low capacitance (typically 1.5pF or less) and are extremely robust — SL1021A devices can transfer pulses of 10,000 amperes without damage, while SL1021B suffix devices can transfer pulses of 20,000 amperes without damage. The series offers an optimized internal geometry that achieves low insertion loss at high frequencies, making it ideal for protecting broadband and other high-speed transmission equipment.
Features
- RoHS compliant, low insertion loss, excellent response to fast-rising transients, ultra-low capacitance
- 10KA (devices with suffix A) / 20KA (devices with suffix B) surge capability, tested per IEC 61000-4-5 with 8/20μs pulse
- Optional thermal fail-safe option (add "F" suffix to part number)
Applications
- Broadband Equipment
- ADSL Equipment
- XDSL Equipment
- Satellite and Cable TV Equipment
- General Telecom Equipment
