Introduction
Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) circuit protection devices safely dissipate electrical surge energy within a sealed plasma gas. Commonly used to help protect sensitive telecommunications and networking equipment and lines from damage caused by lightning strikes and equipment switching operations. The SL1021A/B series GDTs are designed to provide high performance on fast-rising transients in the range of 100V/μS to 1KV/μS (most likely generated by induced lightning interference). These devices feature ultra-low capacitance (typically 1.5pF or lower) and are extremely robust — the SL1021A device can shunt 10,000-ampere pulses without damage, while the SL1021B suffix device can shunt 20,000-ampere pulses without damage. The series offers an optimized internal geometry for low insertion loss at high frequencies, making it ideal for protecting broadband and other high-speed transmission equipment.
