Introduction
The A19520 is an advanced vibration-tolerant Hall effect IC designed to measure the speed and direction of a rotating target. The sensor IC can directly sense a ring magnet target, or sense a ferrous target with magnet bias. The package features an integrated capacitor for EMC.
The A19520 employs intelligent algorithms for stable operation in vibration and highly dynamic air-gap environments commonly found in transmission applications. In addition, the differential sensing of the A19520 effectively suppresses common-mode magnetic field interference.
The IC is designed to an ISO 26262-certified design process, facilitating integration into high safety integrity level systems. Integrated diagnostic functions detect IC faults that affect the accuracy of the output protocol, providing coverage compatible with ASIL B compliance.
The A19520 is housed in a 2-pin micro-SIP package (suffix UB), lead-free (Pb), with tin-plated lead frame. The UB package integrates the IC and capacitor into a single over-molded package with additional molded lead stabilizer bars to facilitate shipping and assembly.
The A19520 sensor IC contains a single-chip Hall effect circuit supporting three Hall elements. These elements are used in differential pairs to provide an electrical signal containing target rotational speed, direction, and edge position information. The A19520 is designed to work with ring magnet targets, or with ferrous targets when back-biased with an appropriate magnet. The IC detects the peak values of the magnetic signal and sets dynamic thresholds based on these detected signals. Output edges are triggered by B_DIFF transitions through the switching points.
Forward rotation is defined as target movement where the target feature travels from pin 1 to pin 2. This rotation direction is indicated on the IC output by the t_w(FWD) pulse width. For the "-Rxxxxxx" variant, target rotation from pin 2 to pin 1 represents the forward direction.
As the target passes in front of the device (opposite the marked face of the package housing), the sensor IC generates one output pulse for each magnetic pole pair or each tooth-valley pair of the target. The output pulse rate provides speed information, while the duration of the output pulse provides target rotation direction information. The sensor IC can detect both forward and reverse movement of the target.
For the "-xxIxxxx" variant, in high-speed mode, the output pulse duration is t_w(HS) regardless of target rotation direction.
