Introduction
The ADuM141x are quad-channel digital isolators based on iCoupler technology. These isolation devices integrate high-speed CMOS with monolithic air-core transformer technology, offering superior performance characteristics over alternative devices such as optocouplers. iCoupler devices require no LEDs or photodiodes, thereby eliminating the design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers. The straightforward iCoupler digital interface and stable performance characteristics eliminate the uncertainties of current transfer ratio, nonlinear transfer functions, and temperature and lifetime effects common to optocouplers. These iCoupler products require no external drivers or other discrete components. Furthermore, at equivalent signal data rates, iCoupler devices consume only 1/10 to 1/6 the power of optocouplers. The ADuM141x isolators provide four independent isolation channels, supporting multiple channel configurations and data rates up to 10 Mbps. All models operate from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage, ensuring compatibility with low-voltage systems and enabling voltage translation across the isolation barrier. All versions include a default output control pin, which allows users to define the logic state of the outputs when input power is absent. Unlike conventional optocouplers, the ADuM141x isolators feature a patented refresh mechanism that ensures DC correctness in the absence of input logic transitions and during power-up/power-down conditions.
