Introduction
SN74HCS238 is a high-speed silicon-gate CMOS decoder, ideally suited for memory address decoding or data routing applications. It contains a single 3:8 decoder. All inputs incorporate Schmitt triggers, permitting slow input transitions and providing additional noise immunity. The SN74HCS238 has three address select inputs (A₂, A₁, and A₀), with the circuit functioning as a standard one-of-eight decoder. Three strobe inputs (G₂, G₁, and G₀) are provided to simplify cascading and facilitate demultiplexing. When any input strobe is asserted, all outputs are forced to the low state. The demultiplexing function is achieved by first selecting the desired output using the select inputs, then using one of the strobe inputs as the data input. The SN74HCS238 outputs are normally low and go high when selected.
