The TMS320AV410/411 digital NTSC/PAL encoder converts digital RGB and YCbCr signals into NTSC/PAL-compliant signals. Signals can be output in Y, C, composite, and RGB formats. An integrated sync signal generator and three-channel D/A converter minimize the need for external logic. Internal matrix circuitry performs YCbCr-to-RGB conversion. The 'AV410/411 is designed for MPEG video applications such as digital video disc, video CD, CATV set-top boxes, and PC applications. Host control of the 'AV410/411 is implemented via an I2C-compatible interface or a general-purpose four-wire host interface. A simplified standalone mode allows the 'AV410/411 to operate without a host controller. The device uses a dual-supply configuration to reduce power consumption. The core circuitry operates at 3.3 V, while the device I/Os operate at 5 V to provide a TTL-compatible interface.

The TMS320AV410 has the capability to apply Macrovision (Version 7.0) to the video output signal. Macrovision is a copy-protection technology that allows viewers to watch but not record video signals from a VCR. The TMS320AV411 is functionally identical to the TMS320AV410 except that it does not include the Macrovision feature.
