Introduction
ME4058 is a lithium battery charge control IC featuring trickle, constant current, and constant voltage charging modes. It supports fast and efficient charging of single-cell (4.2V/4.35V), dual-cell (8.4V/8.7V), or triple-cell (12.6V/13.05V) lithium batteries. The ME4058 operates over a wide input voltage range at a 450KHz switching frequency, employing a current-mode PWM buck switching topology to deliver a compact, simple, and highly efficient solution for fast lithium battery charging.
The ME4058 sets the charge current via an external sense resistor, achieving a current accuracy within ±10%. Internally, a resistor divider network and a precision reference voltage set the float voltage of each cell to 4.2V/4.35V (single-cell), 8.4V or 8.7V (dual-cell), or 12.6V or 13.05V (triple-cell), with an accuracy of up to ±1%. An internal timer defines the trickle charge duration and current-mode charge duration. When charging is complete, if the battery voltage drops to approximately 3.5% below the float voltage, the controller automatically initiates a new charge cycle. When the input power is removed, the IC automatically enters sleep mode. The IC features real-time battery temperature monitoring and self-recovery capability.
