Introduction
The DS1302 is a trickle-charge real-time clock (RTC) IC that integrates a real-time clock/calendar and 31 bytes of non-volatile static RAM. It communicates with a microprocessor via a simple serial interface. The real-time clock/calendar counts seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years, with automatic end-of-month adjustment and leap year correction. The clock supports 24-hour format or 12-hour format with AM/PM indication. The 31 bytes of RAM can be used for temporary storage of critical data. The device uses synchronous serial communication, requiring only three wires to interface with the clock/RAM: RST (reset), I/O (data line), and SCLK (serial clock). Data can be transferred in single-byte or multi-byte (up to 31 bytes) format. The DS1302 features extremely low power consumption, drawing less than 1µW while retaining data and timekeeping information.
Features
- Counts seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years with leap-year compensation
- 31 bytes non-volatile RAM for high-speed data scratch pad
