Introduction
XPD920 is a multi-protocol port controller integrating USB Type-C, USB Power Delivery (PD) 2.0/3.0 with PPS, QC3.0+/QC3.0/QC2.0, Huawei FCP/SCP/HVSCP, Samsung AFC, VOOC 2.0, BC1.2 DCP, and Apple 2.4A charging specifications, providing a cost-effective USB Type-C port charging solution for AC-DC adapters, car chargers, and other devices. The integrated Type-C protocol supports automatic wake-up upon device insertion, intelligent plug orientation detection (front/reverse), and connection establishment. The integrated PD protocol supports Biphase Mark Coding (BMC) with a hardware-implemented physical layer and protocol engine, requiring no software involvement in encoding/decoding. XPD920 supports up to 36W output power. The broadcast PDO voltages are configurable as 5V/9V/12V, with flexible APDO voltage range configuration for 5V Prog and 9V Prog. XPD920 implements dynamic voltage regulation by connecting a Sink/Source-capable current source to the feedback pin of an AC-DC or DC-DC converter. Soft-start and smooth voltage transition are provided during both startup and voltage adjustment processes. XPD920 incorporates multiple protection mechanisms to ensure device safety: dynamic OVP/UVP/OCP (protection thresholds scale proportionally with the device's requested operating voltage/current); startup monitoring (port voltage safety check before VBUS output); and DP/DM and CC1/CC2 OVP. XPD920 integrates a 10mΩ VBUS path power switch, dual discharge paths, and a constant voltage control loop, enabling faster output shutdown and recovery to a safe state upon fault detection. XPD920 can easily pass USB PD certification testing without requiring additional components for compliance. XPD920 supports re-programming for in-field firmware upgrades. XPD920 is available in an ESOP8 package and operates without any additional external components, delivering an optimized BOM cost profile.
