Introduction
The TCA9554 is a 16-pin device that provides 8-bit general-purpose parallel input and output (I/O) expansion for the two-wire bidirectional I²C bus (or SMBus) protocol. The device operates with a supply voltage range from 1.65V to 5.5V. It supports two clock frequencies: 100kHz (Standard Mode) and 400kHz (Fast Mode). When additional I/O is required for switches, sensors, buttons, LEDs, fans, and other similar devices, an I/O expander like the TCA9554 offers a simple solution. The features of the TCA9554 include generating an interrupt on the INT pin when the state of an input port changes. The hardware-selectable address pins A0, A1, and A2 allow up to eight TCA9554 devices to be on the same I²C bus.
