Introduction
The BQ769x0 series of reliable analog front-end (AFE) devices is part of a complete battery pack monitoring and protection solution for next-generation high-power systems such as light electric vehicles, power tools, and uninterruptible power supplies. The BQ769x0 is designed for low power consumption: it can control the current consumption of the entire chip by enabling/disabling sub-blocks in the IC, and it can also use the shipping mode to easily switch the battery pack to an ultra-low-power state. The BQ76920 device supports up to 5 series-connected batteries or a battery pack with a typical value of 18 V. The BQ76930 can handle up to 10 series-connected batteries or a battery pack with a typical value of 36 V, while the BQ76940 supports up to 15 series-connected batteries or a battery pack with a typical value of 48 V. These AFEs can be used to manage various battery chemistries, such as lithium-ion and lithium iron phosphate. Through I2C, the host controller can use the BQ769x0 to perform various battery pack management functions, such as monitoring (battery voltage, battery pack current, battery pack temperature), protection (controlling charge/discharge FETs), and balancing functions. The integrated analog-to-digital (A/D) converter enables pure digital reading of key system parameters, which are calibrated during the TI manufacturing process.
Features
- Pure digital interface
- Internal ADC for measuring cell voltage, die temperature, and external thermistors; a separate internal ADC measures battery pack current (coulomb counter)
