Introduction
The OPT3001-Q1 is an optical sensor that measures the intensity of visible light. The spectral response of the sensor closely matches the photopic response of the human eye and incorporates significant infrared rejection, with a wide angle of incidence for the SOT-5X3 package. The OPT3001-Q1 is a single-chip lux meter designed to measure the intensity of light as seen by the human eye. The OPT3001-Q1 features precise spectral response and strong infrared rejection, enabling accurate measurement of human-eye-visible light intensity regardless of light source. The strong infrared rejection also helps maintain high accuracy in industrial designs where the sensor must be mounted behind dark glass for aesthetic reasons. The OPT3001-Q1 is designed for systems that deliver light-based human visual experiences, making it an ideal replacement for photodiodes, photoresistors, or other ambient light sensors with lower human-eye matching and infrared rejection. Digital operation provides flexibility for system integration. Measurements can be performed either continuously or in single-shot mode. The control and interrupt system operates autonomously, allowing the processor to enter sleep mode while the sensor monitors for appropriate wake events and reports them via the interrupt pin. Digital output is reported over a two-wire serial interface compatible with I²C and SMBus. The OPT3001-Q1 features low power consumption and low supply voltage, extending battery life in battery-powered systems. The built-in automatic full-scale setting eliminates the need for manual full-scale range selection, enabling measurements across a range of 0.01 lux to 83 klux. This feature allows optical measurements within a 23-bit effective dynamic range.
