Introduction
The TPS6280x device family is a buck converter featuring a typical quiescent current of 2.3µA, excellent efficiency, and an ultra-small solution size. The device utilizes TI's DCS-Control™ topology, enabling operation with miniature inductors and capacitors at switching frequencies up to 4MHz. Under light-load conditions, the device seamlessly enters power save mode, reducing the number of switching cycles and maintaining high efficiency. Connecting the VSEL/MODE pin to GND selects the fixed output voltage. Connecting a single external resistor to the VSEL/MODE pin allows selection from 16 internally set output voltages. The integrated R2D (Resistor-to-Digital) converter reads the external resistor and sets the output voltage accordingly. By simply swapping a single resistor, the same device part number can be used across different applications and voltage rails. Furthermore, the internally set output voltages provide higher accuracy compared to a conventional external resistive voltage divider network. After device startup, the DC/DC converter enters forced PWM mode (by applying a logic high to the VSEL/MODE pin). In this operating mode, the device typically switches at 4MHz or 1.5MHz, enabling minimum output voltage ripple and maximum efficiency. The TPS6280x device family is available in a miniature 6-pin WCSP package with 0.35mm pitch.
