Introduction
The LMH1218 is a low-power cable driver with an integrated clock recovery circuit, capable of driving serial video data compliant with SMPTE-SDI, SMPTE 2022-5/6, 10GbE Ethernet, and DVB-ASI standards. Supporting data rates up to 11.88 Gbps, it enables ultra-high-definition video display in 4K/8K applications. The device features 75Ω and 50Ω transmitter outputs, supporting multiple media options including coaxial cable, fiber optic, and FR-4 PCB.
An integrated 2:1 multiplexer at the input allows selection between two video sources, while a programmable equalizer compensates for PCB loss to extend signal transmission distance. The on-chip clock recovery circuit leverages a wide-range CDR circuit to automatically detect and lock onto serial data from 270 Mbps to 11.88 Gbps without requiring an external reference clock or loop filter components, simplifying board design and reducing system cost. The clock-recovered serial data can be routed to the 75Ω or 50Ω transmitter output, or simultaneously to both outputs (1-to-2 fanout mode). The output voltage swing is compatible with SFF-8431 (SFP+), ST-2082/1 (recommended), SMPTE 424M, 344M, 292M, and 259M standards.
A non-intrusive eye diagram monitor supports real-time measurement of serial data, simplifying system bring-up or field debugging. Programming is available via SPI or SMBus interface.
