Introduction
TPS2372 integrates all features required to implement IEEE 802.3at or IEEE 802.3bt (draft) (Class 1–4) Powered Devices (PDs). The low internal switch resistance allows the TPS2372-4 and TPS2372-3 to support high-power applications up to 90W and 60W, respectively. Over 100-meter CAT5 cable, this corresponds to 71.3W and 51W at the PD input. TPS2372 offers advanced features. The automatic MPS function supports a wide range of applications requiring ultra-low-power standby modes. The TPS2372 automatically generates the necessary pulse current to maintain PSE power. An external resistor is used to enable this function and to program the MPS pulse current amplitude. The TPS2372 also implements a delay function that allows the remote PSE to complete its inrush phase before asserting the Power Good (PG) output signal. This ensures compliance with IEEE 802.3bt (draft) startup requirements. The Autoclass enable input additionally supports advanced system power optimization modes compliant with IEEE 802.3bt (draft).
