Introduction
The LMX2594 is a high-performance wideband synthesizer that can generate any frequency in the range of 10 MHz to 15 GHz without using an internal doubler, thus eliminating the need for sub-harmonic filters. A high-performance PLL with a figure of merit of -236 dBc/Hz and a high phase detector frequency enable very low in-band noise and integrated jitter. The high-speed N-divider has no prescaler, significantly reducing the amplitude and number of spurs. There is also a programmable input multiplier that can mitigate integer boundary spurs. The LMX2594 allows users to synchronize the outputs of multiple devices and can be applied when a specific delay is required between the input and output. The frequency ramp generator can synthesize up to 2 segments of ramps in either the automatic ramp generation option or the manual option for maximum flexibility. The frequency can be accelerated to over 20 µs through a fast calibration algorithm. The LMX2594 adds support for generating or repeating SYSREF (compliant with JESD204B), which is an ideal low-noise clock source for high-speed data converters. Fine delay adjustment (9 ps resolution) is provided in this configuration to address the delay differences of board traces. The output driver in the LMX2594 provides an output power of up to 7 dBm at a carrier frequency of 15 GHz. The device is powered by a single 3.3 V supply and has an integrated LDO, eliminating the need for an on-board low-noise LDO.
