Introduction
The P6KE Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode series is a low-cost commercial product designed for applications where large voltage transients may permanently damage voltage-sensitive components. P6KE series devices feature a compact package size, suitable for applications with power and space constraints. They offer high surge capability, extremely fast response time, and low impedance (Ron). Due to the unpredictable nature of transients and the variation in impedance with these transients, impedance itself is not specified as a parameter value. However, the minimum breakdown voltage (BV) at low current and the maximum clamping voltage (Vc) at maximum peak pulse current are specified. In certain cases, thermal effects (see Vc clamping voltage) may account for 50% to 70%. Under high-current pulses at multiple duty cycles, the observed voltage difference renders the maximum impedance specification negligible. In the event of severe current overload or abnormal transients exceeding maximum ratings, the TVS initially fails in a "short-circuit" mode, thereby tripping the system's circuit breaker or fuse while protecting the overall circuit. Curves of clamping voltage versus various current pulses are available from the factory. Extended curves of power versus pulse duration are also available.
Features
- Plastic package has Underwriters Laboratory Flammability Classification 94V-0
