Introduction
The SN74AXC8T245 device is an 8-bit inverting bus transceiver that can be used to solve the voltage level mismatch problem between devices operating at the latest voltage nodes (0.7V, 0.8V, and 0.9V) and those operating at industry-standard voltage nodes (1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V). The device operates via two independent power supply rails (VCCA and VCCB) with an operating voltage as low as 0.65V. Data pins A1 to A8 are all used to track VCCA and can withstand a power supply voltage of 0.65V - 3.6V. Data pins B1 to B8 are all used to track VCCB and can withstand a power supply voltage of 0.65V - 3.6V.
The SN74AXC8T245 device is designed to enable asynchronous communication between data buses. Based on the logic levels of the direction control inputs (DIR1 and DIR2), this device transfers data from the A bus to the B bus or from the B bus to the A bus. The output enable (OE) input can be used to disable the output, effectively isolating the bus.
The SN74AXC8T245 device is designed to reference the control pins (DIR and OE) to VCCA. This device is fully suitable for partial power-down applications using Ioff. When the device is powered down, the Ioff circuit will disable the output. This suppresses current backflow into the device, preventing damage to the device. The VCC isolation feature ensures that when any VCC input power supply is below 100mV, all level shifter outputs will be disabled and in a high-impedance state.
To ensure that the level shifter I/O is in a high-impedance state during power-up or power-down, OE should be connected to VCCA through a pull-up resistor; the minimum value of this resistor is determined by the sink current capability of the driver.
