Introduction
The TCA9544A is a four-channel bidirectional switching I²C multiplexer. The master SCL/SDA signal pair can be directed to any one of the four channels (SC0/SD0 - SC3/SD3) of the slave device. Four interrupt inputs (INT3 - INT0) are provided, with each interrupt input corresponding to a downstream pair. An interrupt output (INT̅) can serve as the AND operation of the four interrupt inputs. A power-on reset function returns the registers to the default state and initializes the I²C state machine, with all channels deselected at this time. A conducting gate is built on the switch, so that the VCC pin can be used to limit the maximum high voltage that will be passed by the TCA9544A. This allows different bus voltages to be used on each pair, so that 1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V components can communicate with 5V components without any additional protection. For each channel, an external pull-up resistor pulls the bus voltage up to the required voltage level. All I/O pins can withstand a voltage of 5.5V.
