Introduction
The ISO1211 and ISO1212 devices are isolated 24V to 60V digital input receivers that comply with the characteristics standards of IEC 61131-2 Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3. These devices can implement 9V to 300V DC and AC digital input modules in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motor control, grid infrastructure, and other industrial applications. Different from traditional optocoupler solutions with discrete and inaccurate current limiting circuits, the ISO121x devices provide a simple low-power solution with precise current limiting, enabling the design of compact and high-density I/O modules. These devices do not require a field-side power supply and can be configured as a current-sourcing or current-sinking input. The ISO121x devices operate over a voltage range of 2.25V to 5.5V and support 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5V controllers. The ±60V input tolerance with reverse polarity protection helps ensure that the input pins are protected in case of a fault with negligible reverse current. These devices support data rates of up to 4Mbps and can pass a minimum pulse width of 150ns, enabling high-speed operation. The ISO1211 device is suitable for designs that require inter-channel isolation, while the ISO1212 device is suitable for multi-channel space-constrained designs. Compared with traditional solutions, the ISO121x devices reduce the number of components, simplify system design, improve performance, and lower the circuit board temperature.
