Introduction
Leveraging its expertise and advanced capabilities in sensor and MEMS technology, Infineon has developed a disruptive 5V CO₂ sensor. Monitoring CO₂ levels is essential for ensuring good indoor air quality, and integrating the XENSIV™ PAS CO2 5V sensor into ventilation equipment helps maintain an ideal indoor environment by optimizing health, comfort, and energy efficiency. By employing the photoacoustic non-dispersive infrared sensing principle, the XENSIV™ PAS CO2 5V addresses the size, performance, and assembly limitations faced by conventional CO₂ sensor solutions. The sensor features an ultra-miniaturized module measuring 14×13.8×7.5 mm³ — four times smaller and three times lighter than comparable NDIR sensors — saving customers over 75% of board space in their applications. In addition to its compact design, the XENSIV™ PAS CO2 5V delivers high-quality data and meets the performance requirements of the WELL™ Building Standard. All key components of the XENSIV™ PAS CO2 are developed in-house to Infineon's high-quality standards, including a dedicated microcontroller that runs advanced compensation algorithms to provide direct and reliable ppm readings of actual CO₂ levels. The available configuration options make this one of the most versatile plug-and-play CO₂ sensors on the market. These options include dedicated automatic baseline offset calibration, pressure compensation, signal alarms, sampling rate selection, and early measurement notification — features primarily used for power consumption management. The SMD package in tape-and-reel format facilitates easy assembly, even in high-speed, high-volume manufacturing.
