Introduction
The TPS65218D0 is a monolithic PMIC designed to support AM335x and AM438x series processors in both portable (Li-ion battery) and non-portable (5V adapter) applications. The device is rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C, making it well-suited for a wide range of industrial applications.
The TPS65218D0 is specifically designed to provide power management for all functions of the AM438x processor. DC/DC converters DCDC1 through DCDC4 are dedicated to powering the core, MPU, DDR memory, and 3.3V analog and I/O supplies, respectively. LDO1 provides the processor with 1.8V analog and I/O voltage. GPIO1 and GPO2 enable memory reset, while GPIO3 enables warm reset for the DCDC1 and DCDC2 converters (335x only). Via the I2C interface, users can enable and disable all voltage regulators, load switches, and GPIOs. In addition, UVLO and monitor voltage thresholds, power-up sequencing, and power-down sequencing are all I2C-programmable. Interrupts due to overtemperature, overcurrent, and undervoltage conditions can also be monitored. The monitor supports DCDC1 through DCDC4 and LDO1, and offers two settings: one for typical undervoltage tolerance (STRICT = 0b) and one for tight undervoltage and overvoltage tolerance (STRICT = 1b). A power-good signal indicates proper regulation of the five voltage regulators.
Three hysteretic buck converters are dedicated to powering the processor core, MPU, and DDRx memory. The default output voltage of each converter is adjustable via the I2C interface. DCDC1 and DCDC2 support dynamic voltage scaling to power the processor across all operating points. Both DCDC1 and DCDC2 also feature a programmable slew rate to help protect processor components. DCDC3 remains powered when the processor is in sleep mode, maintaining the supply to DDRx memory. If the system power fails or is disabled, backup power supplies provide 2 buck converters for the processor's tamper domain, RTC domain, or both. When both system power and a coin cell battery are connected to the PMIC simultaneously, no coin cell current is consumed. Dedicated power-good signals monitor the backup converters. A backup battery monitor is available to determine the remaining charge of the coin cell battery.
The TPS65218D0 is available in a 48-pin VQFN package (6mm × 6mm, 0.4mm pitch).
