TPS2477x is a high-performance analog hot-swap controller for 2.5V to 18V systems. With precise and highly programmable protection settings, TPS2477x is well-suited for high-power, high-availability systems with stringent fault isolation requirements. The controller features programmable current limiting, fast shutdown, and a fault timer to protect loads and power supplies during fault conditions such as hot shorts. The fast shutdown threshold and response time are adjustable to ensure rapid response to actual faults while avoiding nuisance tripping. The device incorporates programmable safe operating area (SOA) protection and a surge timer to protect the MOSFET under all conditions. After TPS2477x asserts the power-good flag, it operates as a circuit breaker during overcurrent events and runs the fault timer without limiting current. When the fault timer expires, the controller shuts down. The controller features two independent timers (surge/fault), allowing users to customize protection behavior to meet system requirements. TPS2477x is highly flexible and can help hot-swap designs meet 240VA requirements; a design example is provided in this datasheet.
