Introduction
The ONET1151L is a 3.3V laser driver designed for direct modulation of a laser at data rates between 1 and 11.3Gbps. The device provides a two-wire serial interface enabling digital control of modulation and bias currents, eliminating the need for external components. Output waveform control in the form of crossing point adjustment, de-emphasis, and output termination resistance is provided to improve optical eye diagram mask margin. An optional input equalizer can be used for equalization of microstrip or stripline transmission lines up to 150mm (6 inches) on FR-4 PCBs. The device incorporates internal ADC and DAC to eliminate the need for special-purpose microcontrollers. The ONET1151L includes an integrated automatic power control (APC) loop that compensates for variations in voltage, temperature, and laser average optical power on the circuit to support laser safety and transceiver management systems. The laser driver is rated for operation over an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +100°C and is offered in a compact 4mm×4mm, 24-pin, RoHS-compliant QFN package that is pin-compatible with the ONET1101L.
