Introduction
The TDC7200 is a time-to-digital converter (TDC) suitable for ultrasonic sensing devices such as water meters, gas meters, and heat meters. When used in conjunction with the TDC1000 (ultrasonic analog front end), it can form a complete ultrasonic sensing solution together with the MSP430, power supply, wireless devices, and relevant source code. The time-to-digital converter (TDC) can perform a stopwatch function to measure the time interval (time of flight, i.e., TOF) between the START pulse and up to 5 STOP pulses. This function allows users to flexibly select the STOP pulse with the best echo performance. The device has a built-in self-calibrating time base to compensate for time and temperature deviations. This self-calibration function enables the time-to-digital converter to achieve picosecond-level accuracy. Therefore, the TDC7200 is highly suitable for flowmeter applications that require high-precision zero-flow and low-flow measurements. When the TDC7200 is placed in the autonomous multi-cycle averaging mode, it can reduce system power consumption, making it ideal for battery-powered flowmeters. In this mode, the main device enters a sleep mode to save energy and is awakened by the TDC interrupt after the measurement sequence is completed.
