The DAC161S997 is an ultra-low-power 16-bit ΣΔ digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that can send analog output current in an industry-standard 4-20mA current loop. The DAC161S997 features a simple four-wire serial peripheral interface (SPI) for data transmission and DAC function configuration. To help compact loop-powered applications reduce power consumption and the number of components, the DAC161S997 uses an internal ultra-low-power reference voltage and an internal oscillator. The DAC161S997 has low power consumption, so there is additional current available for the rest of the system. The loop driver of the DAC161S997 can be connected to a HART modulator to inject digital data modulated by frequency-shift keying (FSK) into the 4 - 20mA current loop. The perfect combination of the above specifications and features makes the DAC161S997 well-suited for two-wire and four-wire industrial transmitters. The DAC161S997 comes in a 16-pin 4mm×4mm ultra-thin quad flat no-lead (WQFN) package and is rated to operate over an extended industrial temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.
