Introduction
The ONET1131EC is a 2.5V EML modulator driver that supports transmit clock and data recovery (CDR) functionality. It can operate in the range of 9.8Gbps to 11.7Gbps without a reference clock. The device can operate at lower data rates in CDR bypass mode. Its two-wire serial interface supports digital control for multiple functions, such as output polarity selection and input equalization.
The transmit path consists of an adjustable input equalizer (which can equalize FR4 printed circuit board microstrip or stripline transmission lines up to 300mm (12 inches) long), a multi-rate CDR, and an output modulator driver. The device provides output waveform control in the form of cross-point adjustment and de-emphasis to increase the optical eye mask margin.
The device provides laser bias current and integrates an automatic power control (APC) loop to compensate for changes in average optical power with voltage, temperature, and time. The ONET1131EC has built-in analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, supporting transceiver management without the need for a dedicated microcontroller.
