Introduction
The TVS1800 can reliably divert IEC 61000-4-5 fault currents of up to 40A to protect the system from high-power transient shocks or lightning strikes. This device provides a solution to meet the common EMC requirements of industrial signal lines and can withstand an IEC 61000-4-5 open-circuit voltage of up to ±1kV when coupled through a 42Ω impedance. The TVS1800 uses a unique feedback mechanism to ensure precise and smooth clamping capability during faults, keeping the system contact voltage below 25V. Precise voltage regulation allows designers to confidently select system components with lower voltage tolerances, reducing system cost and complexity without compromising reliability.
In addition, the TVS1800 comes in a small 2mm×2mm SON package, making it ideal for space-constrained applications. Compared with the industry-standard SMA and SMB packages, its size is reduced by 70%. The extremely low device leakage current and capacitance ensure minimal impact on the protected lines.
To ensure reliable protection throughout the product's lifespan, TI conducted 5,000 repeated surge tests on the TVS1800 in a high-temperature environment without any change in device performance.
