Introduction
The INA186-Q1 is an automotive-grade, low-power, voltage-output current-sense amplifier (also known as a current shunt monitor). This device is commonly used to monitor systems directly connected to automotive 12V batteries. The INA186-Q1 senses the voltage drop across a shunt resistor at common-mode voltages from –0.2V to +40V, independent of the supply voltage. In addition, the input pins have an absolute maximum voltage rating of 42V.
The low input bias current of the INA186-Q1 allows the use of larger current-sense resistors, enabling precise current measurements in the microampere range. The zero-drift architecture's low offset voltage extends the dynamic range of current measurement. This feature supports smaller sense resistors while maintaining accurate current measurement with lower power loss.
The INA186-Q1 operates from a 1.7V to 5.5V single supply and draws a maximum supply current of 90μA when enabled. Five fixed-gain options are available: 25V/V, 50V/V, 100V/V, 200V/V, or 500V/V. The device is rated for an operating temperature range of –40°C to +125°C and is available in SC70, SOT-23 (5), and SOT-23 (8) packages. The SC70 and SOT-23 (DDF) packages support bidirectional current measurement, while the SOT-23 (DBV) supports unidirectional current measurement only.
