Introduction
The ACPL-790B/790A/7900 isolation amplifiers are designed for current and voltage sensing in electronic power converters, with applications including motor drives and renewable energy systems. In a typical motor drive application, current flows through an external resistor, and the resulting analog voltage drop is detected by the isolation amplifier. A differential output voltage proportional to the current is produced on the other side of the optical isolation barrier.
For general applications, the ACPL-790A (gain tolerance ±1%) and ACPL-7900 (gain tolerance ±3%) are recommended. For high-precision applications, the ACPL-790B (gain tolerance ±0.5%) is available. The device operates from a single 5V supply and delivers excellent linearity and dynamic performance with a 62dB SNR. Its 200kHz bandwidth and fast 1.6μs response time enable capture of transient signals under short-circuit and overload conditions. The ACPL-790B/790A/7900 features 15kV/μs high common-mode transient immunity, enabling accurate and stable motor current monitoring in high-noise motor control environments and providing smoother control (reduced "torque ripple") across a wide range of motor control applications.
Combined with superior optocoupler technology, the ACPL-790B/790A/7900 incorporates a Σ-Δ ADC, a chopper-stabilized amplifier, and a fully differential circuit topology, delivering unmatched isolation-mode noise rejection, low offset, high gain accuracy, and stability. The device is housed in a compact, auto-insertable DIP-8 package and complies with global regulatory safety standards.
