Introduction
The OPA1662-Q1 is a dual bipolar-input op-amp well suited as an external amplifier for premium audio in infotainment and combination instrument cluster systems. The primary challenge for audio systems is ensuring a clean, high-quality output signal, which means minimizing any noise introduced into the signal. The OPA1662-Q1 delivers low noise density and ultra-low distortion of 0.00006% (at 1kHz) to maximize signal output. Additionally, the op-amp provides rail-to-rail output swing within 600mV on a 2kΩ load. The wide margin ensures the output signal does not clip, thereby protecting audio quality.
The OPA1662-Q1 operates over a wide supply voltage range of ±1.5V to ±18V, or 3V to 36V, with a quiescent current of only 1.5mA per channel. The wide supply range provides design flexibility, as the device can be integrated from battery-powered power amplifiers or from ADC- to DAC-driven power amplifiers for low-power applications. In addition, the device features a high output drive capability of ±30mA, enabling it to serve as the sole audio amplifier in low-power applications such as instrument cluster chimes.
Furthermore, both channels use fully independent circuitry to achieve low crosstalk, with no inter-channel interaction even under overdrive or overload conditions. This capability makes it straightforward to drive two distinct audio signals, as the signals do not interfere with each other.
The OPA1662-Q1 offers a wide bandwidth of 22MHz and a high slew rate of 17V/μs, making it suitable for high-side and low-side ripple current sensing in SMPS devices or motor drivers. As a current sensor, the OPA1662-Q1 can be used in peak current mode control, where the op-amp provides system stability and enables higher bandwidth. The OPA1662-Q1 is applicable in body control modules and HEV or EV converters that commonly employ motors.
