Introduction
TI's MSP series of ultra-low-power microcontrollers come in a wide variety. Each member device is equipped with different peripheral sets to meet the needs of various applications. This architecture, when used in conjunction with five low-power modes, is the optimal choice for extending the battery life of portable measurement applications. The device features a powerful 16-bit Reduced Instruction Set (RISC) CPU, which uses 16-bit registers and a constant generator to achieve the highest coding efficiency. This Digitally Controlled Oscillator (DCO) enables the device to wake up from the low-power mode to the active mode in less than 5µs. The MSP430F5310, MSP430F5309, and MSP430F5308 devices are configured as microcontrollers, with 1 3.3V LDO, 4 16-bit timers, 1 high-performance 10-bit ADC, 2 USCI (1), 1 hardware multiplier, DMA, 1 RTC module with an alarm function, and 31 or 47 I/O pins. The MSP430F5304 device configuration has 1 3.3V LDO, 4 16-bit timers, 1 high-performance 10-bit ADC, 1 USCI, 1 hardware multiplier, DMA, 1 RTC module with an alarm function, and 31 I/O pins.
