Introduction
A Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) is a single-gap or multi-gap switching-type overvoltage protection device. It is constructed by filling a sealed space between metal electrodes and metallized ceramics with a specific ratio of inert gas or other mixed discharge media, bonded together through high-temperature sealing. When the protected circuit or equipment is subjected to a surge, the GDT transitions from a high-impedance state to a low-impedance state, diverting surge energy to ground, reducing the residual voltage across the circuit, and thereby protecting equipment circuits or personnel from transient overvoltage hazards.
