Introduction
NCA9539-Q100 provides 16-bit general-purpose I/O (GPIO) expansion for I²C bus/SMBus applications, with interrupt and reset capabilities. It operates over a wide supply voltage range of 1.65 V to 5.5 V. When additional IOs are needed while minimizing interconnects, Nexperia's GPIO expanders offer an excellent solution for applications such as ACPI power switching, sensors, buttons, LEDs, and fan control. The NCA9539-Q100 contains a set of 8-bit input, output, configuration, and polarity inversion registers. At power-on, all IOs default to inputs. Each IO can be configured as an input or output by changing the corresponding bit in the configuration register. Data for each input or output is stored in the corresponding input or output register. The polarity inversion register can be programmed to invert the polarity of the read registers. The NCA9539-Q100 features an open-drain interrupt output that is asserted whenever any GPIO differs from its corresponding input port register state. INT can be connected to a microcontroller's interrupt input. By signaling an interrupt on this line, the remote I/O can notify the microcontroller of incoming port data without communicating over the I²C bus, allowing the NCA9539-Q100 to remain a simple slave device. Power-on reset initializes the registers to their default values and resets the device state machine. The RESET pin can achieve the same reset function without a power cycle by holding it low. The state machine and registers remain in their default state until the RESET input returns high. This input requires a pull-up to VCC. The NCA9539-Q100 has two address pins, A0 and A1, which configure the device's I²C bus slave address, allowing up to four devices to share the same I²C bus/SMBus. This product is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified for automotive applications.
