Introduction
The Honeywell Intelligent Particulate Matter Sensor (IPM Series) is a laser-based sensor that uses light scattering to detect and measure particulate matter concentration for air quality monitoring. The detection concentration range is 0μg/m³ to 1000μg/m³. A laser light source illuminates particulate matter drawn into the detection chamber. As particles pass through the laser beam, light is reflected off the particles and recorded by a photodetector. The light is then analyzed and converted into an electrical signal to calculate particulate matter concentration. During production calibration, the sensor records raw laser intensity parameters and fan speed. A calibration algorithm is applied to the sensor output to minimize sensor drift and improve accuracy over the sensor's service life. This self-calibration is performed at every power-on cycle.
Features
- Laser-based (Class 1) particulate matter light scattering sensing
- Concentration range: 0μg/m³ to 1000μg/m³
- Continuous operating lifetime up to 8 years
- Factory calibrated
- RoHS and REACH compliant
- Detects particulates from 0.3μm to 10μm
- Improved accuracy and cost competitiveness for ambient particulate matter monitoring or control
- Response time less than 6 seconds with 1-second data update rate, enabling the IPM series to respond to ambient conditions in near real time
- Robust metal design for harsh environments
- Calibrated sensor output with high-accuracy particulate matter measurement (±10μg/m³)
- Typical current consumption of 50mA with an optional ~1.5μA current available for battery-powered applications
- Intelligent self-calibration via built-in algorithm to compensate for drift over sensor lifetime
- Ultra-compact and robust design with metal housing
- Flexible output options — two digital outputs: I²C and UART, one analog output: PWM
Applications
- Air quality monitors (indoor and outdoor)
- Air purifiers (commercial and residential)
- Automotive cabin air purifiers
- HVAC (commercial and residential)
