The A72 series consists of polypropylene film and metal foil, or metallized film and metal foil, with tinned wire axial leads. The axial leads are electrically soldered to the metal layer at the end of the capacitor winding. The capacitors are encased in polyester tape and filled with thermosetting resin. Two different winding configurations are used depending on the voltage rating. Refer to the Performance Characteristics section for more information.

Typical applications include resonant circuits, high-frequency medium-to-high current applications, silicon controlled rectifiers (SCR and IGBT), and high-voltage medium-to-high current applications. Not suitable for across-the-line applications (see suppression capacitors).
