Introduction
The ACS712 is a high-performance Hall-effect current sensor capable of measuring AC or DC current with greater efficiency, widely used in industrial, consumer, and communications equipment. The series integrates a high-precision, low-noise linear Hall circuit and a low-resistance primary current-carrying conductor. When the sampled current flows through the primary current path, the resulting magnetic field induces a corresponding electrical signal in the Hall circuit, which is processed by the signal conditioning circuitry to produce a voltage output strictly proportional to the measured current. The linear Hall circuit is fabricated using an advanced BCDMOS process and incorporates a high-sensitivity Hall sensor, Hall signal preamplifier, high-precision Hall temperature compensation unit, oscillator, dynamic offset cancellation circuit, and amplifier output stage. With no magnetic field present, the quiescent output of the current sensor is 50% Vcc. At a supply voltage of 5V, the sensor quiescent output varies linearly with the magnetic field in the range of 0.2 ~ 4.8V, with a linearity of up to 0.4%. The dynamic offset cancellation circuit integrated within the ACS712 ensures that sensor sensitivity is unaffected by external stress or IC package-induced stress. It is available in an SOP8 package, operates over a temperature range of -40 ~ 150°C, and is RoHS compliant.
