Introduction
The BMI088 is an IMU for detecting 6DoF motion and rotation. It integrates the functions of two inertial sensors in a single device: an advanced triaxial 16-bit gyroscope and a versatile, state-of-the-art triaxial 16-bit accelerometer.
The BMI088 is designed to meet all requirements of high-performance consumer applications in harsh vibration environments, such as those encountered in drone and robotics applications. This IMU is designed to effectively suppress vibrations above several hundred Hz, which may occasionally occur due to resonance of the PCB or the overall system structure.
The sensor features an extended measurement range of up to ±24g to avoid signal clipping under high-intensity signal exposure.
The evaluation circuit (ASIC) converts the output of the MEMS sensing structures, which are developed, manufactured, and tested at Bosch facilities. The corresponding chipset is housed in a 3.0mm x 4.5mm x 0.95mm LGA package. For optimal system integration, the BMI088 is equipped with digital interfaces (SPI or I²C), offering a wide VDDIO voltage range of 1.2V to 3.6V. To deliver maximum performance and reliability, each device is tested and calibrated, ready for immediate use.
For added flexibility, the gyroscope and accelerometer can not only be operated independently but also connected together for data synchronization purposes. On-chip features include a FIFO for accelerometer and gyroscope data, as well as an interrupt controller.
The BMI088 offers excellent temperature characteristics with very low temperature coefficient of offset (TCO) and temperature coefficient of sensitivity (TCS).
