Introduction
TX5818 is a wide voltage input battery charge management IC capable of charging 2-cell and 3-cell series-connected lithium batteries. In 2-cell lithium battery mode, it is compatible with 5V and 9V adapters. With a 5V supply, it performs boost charging for both 2-cell and 3-cell lithium batteries. With a 9V supply, it performs linear buck charging for 2-cell lithium batteries. The charging current can be set via an external resistor R<sub>SET</sub>.
The low-impedance power path enables higher charging efficiency, reduced charging time, and extended battery life.
TX5818 can adaptively adjust the charging current according to the current supply capability of the adapter, ensuring that the input adapter does not experience overload while fully utilizing the adapter's maximum current capacity. It is therefore suitable for various DC devices and standard USB charging equipment.
Additional features include input overvoltage protection, battery temperature detection, undervoltage protection, overtemperature protection, automatic recharge, and charge status indication.
The QFN3×3-16 package with an exposed thermal pad on the bottom, combined with a minimal external component count, makes TX5818 an ideal choice for portable applications.
