Introduction
DR704Q is a smart H-bridge driver for automotive applications, driving four external N-channel MOSFETs to control a bidirectional brushed DC motor. It supports an SPI configuration interface and PH/EN, independent H-bridge, or standard PWM control interfaces, enabling forward, reverse, slow brake, coast, and other motor control modes. Two unidirectional brushed DC motors can be sequentially controlled in a cost-effective manner via independent half-bridge mode. Supply voltage range is 5.5V to 45V, with a maximum supply voltage of 55V. A low-power sleep mode is enabled via the nSLEEP pin, and an integrated charge pump supports 100% duty cycle output. To limit startup inrush current and stall current, an integrated current sense amplifier is included with fixed off-time PWM current chopping for winding current regulation. The current sense amplifier supports bidirectional current sensing, with a configurable measurement range via four selectable common-mode point settings and four gain options: 9/18.8/38.4/77. External FETs are protected through an integrated smart gate driver module, eliminating the need for additional external gate components. The combination of protection features and configurable gate drive simplifies design and enhances motor system intelligence. Configurable dead-time optimization prevents shoot-through, active/passive pull-down, and dv/dt gate rotation; programmable slew rate control provides flexibility in EMI reduction. Integrated protection features include UVLO, OVLO, CPUV, OCP, TSD, GDF, watchdog timer, and more. Offline load diagnostics detect short-to-supply, short-to-ground, open-load, and other fault conditions, helping systems meet functional safety requirements. Spread-spectrum clocking is also integrated for the internal digital oscillator and internal charge pump to address system EMC challenges, with four selectable center frequency options for the spread spectrum.
