Introduction
The DRV887x device family is a flexible motor driver suitable for a wide range of end applications. These devices integrate an N-channel H-bridge, charge pump regulator, current sensing and regulation, current proportional output, and protection circuits. The charge pump boosts efficiency by supporting high-side and low-side N-channel MOSFETs with 100% duty cycle support. The device family offers pin-to-pin compatible, scalable RDS(on) options, enabling support for different loads with minimal design changes. During startup and high-load events, integrated current sensing enables motor current regulation through the driver. The current limit can be set using an adjustable external voltage reference. In addition, these devices provide an output current proportional to the motor load current. This feature can be used to detect motor stall or changes under load conditions. The integrated current sensing uses an internal current mirror architecture, eliminating the need for high-power shunt resistors, saving board space and reducing system cost. Supports 1.8V, 3.3V, and 5V logic inputs, ultra-low power sleep mode – less than 1μA at V_VM = 24V, T_J = 25°C, with spread-spectrum clocking for low EMI. Integrated protection features provide a low-power sleep mode that achieves ultra-low quiescent current consumption by shutting down most internal circuitry. Internal protection features are provided for supply undervoltage lockout (UVLO), charge pump undervoltage (CPUV), output overcurrent (OCP), and device overtemperature (TSD). Fault conditions are indicated on nFAULT.
