Introduction
TPS61088-Q1 is a high power density synchronous boost converter with an input voltage range of 2.7V to 12V, designed to provide an efficient, compact solution for automotive applications. With a minimum input voltage of 2.7V, the TPS61088-Q1 can also boost single-cell or dual-cell Li-ion backup batteries (BUB) in applications requiring high power output (such as eCall), to drive speakers, antennas, and other circuitry. The device can also be used as a post-boost converter to step up the main automotive system 3.3V power rail to supply 5V for CAN transceivers and other circuits. The 12.6V output voltage capability allows the TPS61088-Q1 to power audio amplifiers (e.g., providing 10V or 11V for eCall systems), antennas, Power over Coax (PoC), and Automotive Audio Bus (A2B) devices. The 10A switching current supports applications required to operate during cold crank, such as converting from a 3.5V input to an 11V output while still delivering up to 2A of load current. The TPS61088-Q1 uses an adaptive constant off-time peak current control topology to regulate the output voltage. Under moderate to heavy load conditions, the TPS61088-Q1 operates in PWM mode. Under light load conditions, the device can select one of two operating modes via the MODE pin: PFM mode for improved efficiency, or forced PWM mode to avoid application issues caused by lower switching frequencies. The PWM mode switching frequency is adjustable from 200kHz to 2.2MHz via an external resistor. The TPS61088-Q1 also features programmable soft-start and adjustable switching peak current limit. In addition, the device provides 13.2V output overvoltage protection, cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown protection. The TPS61088-Q1 is available in a compact 4.50mm × 3.50mm, 20-pin VQFN package.
