Introduction
The TUSB8043A is a four-port USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) hub. This device can provide simultaneous SuperSpeed and high-speed/full-speed USB connections on the upstream port, and SuperSpeed, high-speed, full-speed, or low-speed USB connections on the downstream ports. When the upstream port is connected to an electrical environment that only supports high-speed or full-speed/low-speed connections, the SuperSpeed USB connections on the downstream ports will be disabled. When the upstream port is connected to an electrical environment that only supports full-speed/low-speed connections, the SuperSpeed USB and high-speed connections on the downstream ports will be disabled.
The TUSB8043A supports per-port or grouped power switches and overcurrent protection, and also supports saving board space in battery charging applications. According to the requirements of the USB host, the hub switches are individually controlled by port power to power on or off each downstream port. Additionally, when the per-port power control hub detects an overcurrent event, it only turns off the power of the affected downstream port. When power needs to be supplied to any port, a grouped hub switch turns on the power to all its downstream ports. The power to the downstream ports can only be turned off when all ports are in a state where the power can be removed. Moreover, when the per-port power control hub detects an overcurrent event, it turns off the power of all downstream ports.
The downstream ports of the TUSB8043A can provide support for Battery Charging Downstream Port (CDP) handshaking to support battery charging applications. Without an upstream port connected, the device also supports the Dedicated Charging Port (DCP) mode. The DCP mode is suitable for USB devices that support USB battery charging, Galaxy charging, and comply with the Chinese telecommunications industry standard YD/T 1591 - 2009. In addition, without an upstream port connected, the TUSB8043A supports the Divider Charging Port mode (ACPx mode) and can automatically switch between all modes, starting from the ACP3 mode and ending with the DCP mode.
The TUSB8043A can provide pin-strapping configuration for some features including battery charging support, and can also provide customization support for PID, VID, custom ports, and physical layer configuration through OTP ROM, I2C EEPROM, or I2C/SMBus slave interface. When using the I2C EEPROM or I2C/SMBus slave interface, custom string support can also be provided. The USB8043A supports the connected EEPROM through the internal USB HID and I2C interfaces.
This device is packaged in a 64-pin RGC package. The commercial version (TUSB8043A) has an operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, and the industrial version (TUSB8043AI) has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
