Introduction
The LM5121 is a synchronous boost controller designed for high-efficiency, high-power boost regulator applications. The control method is based on peak current mode control, which provides inherent line feedforward, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and simplified loop compensation. Switching frequency is programmable up to 1MHz. Higher efficiency is achieved by combining two robust N-channel MOSFET gate drivers with adaptive dead-time control. A user-selectable diode emulation mode enables discontinuous mode operation, improving efficiency under light load conditions. The LM5121 features a disconnect switch control that fully isolates the output from the input during output short-circuit conditions or shutdown. During the startup sequence, the disconnect switch control limits inrush current. An internal charge pump allows the high-side synchronous switch to operate at 100% duty cycle (bypass operation). Additional features include: thermal shutdown, frequency synchronization, discontinuous mode current limiting, and adjustable line undervoltage lockout.
