Thermostats provide temperature control or over-temperature protection by disconnecting electrical connections upon reaching a specified temperature. Honeywell manufactures a broad range of thermostats suitable for various potential applications:

• Unsealed and sealed versions designed to meet the needs of information technology, transportation, telecommunications, industrial, aircraft, medical equipment, communications, and electronic control systems.
• High-reliability versions addressing the unique requirements of specific industries. Honeywell can also integrate these thermostats into higher-value cable assemblies, including wire harnesses and connectors. In addition, a range of pre-configured REDI-TEMP thermostats is also available.

• Auto Reset: A thermostat type that automatically resets at a specific temperature (e.g., thermostat operates at 65.5°C [150°F] and resets at 48.89°C [120°F]).
• Bimetal: Two dissimilar metals bonded together to form the material used to manufacture the thermosensitive disc that actuates the thermostat.
• Close on Rise (COR): Refers to contact operation. When temperature rises to the set point, contacts close or make contact, completing the circuit.
• Contact Resistance: The resistance value measured between terminals.
• Dielectric Strength: The insulation value between two conductive components. Can be tested by applying a predetermined overvoltage for a specified duration.
• Differential: The temperature difference between the operating and reset set points, also referred to as operate and reset.
• Nominal: The temperature difference between nominal set points, independent of tolerance.
• Maximum: The temperature difference between the operating and reset points.
• Minimum: The minimum degrees between the actual open and close set points.
• Exposed Temperature: The thermal environment of the device during application operation.
• FLA (Full Load Amperes): The current drawn from the line when a motor delivers rated horsepower at rated voltage and frequency.
• Life Cycle: A durability rating expressed as the number of operations of a thermostat when a specified electrical load is applied. Temperature limiting application = open or rise.
• LRA (Locked Rotor Amperes): The amount of current a motor is expected to draw under full voltage starting conditions, also known as starting inrush current.
• Manual Reset: A bimetal thermostat with a reset button that must be pressed to reset the contacts.
• Open on Rise (OOR): Refers to contact operation. When temperature rises to the set point, contacts open, breaking the circuit.
• Encapsulation: Enclosing in an insulating material.
• Phenolic: A thermosetting plastic used for the insulating body of a thermostat.
• Set Point: The nominal temperature at which a thermostat operates.
• SPST (Single Pole/Single Throw): A switch with one current path that can be opened or closed.
• Tolerance: The allowable range above and below the set point temperature.
• Operate: The change of state when a thermostat reaches its set point.
• Reset: The change of state when a thermostat returns to its original pre-operate condition.
