Introduction
The SFH250 is a low-cost 650nm receiver for optical data transmission over polymer optical fiber. This silicon PIN photodiode is well matched to the AVAGO transmitter SFH757. Depending on the incident light intensity, the SFH250 generates an analog photocurrent. In a typical application, the SFH250 is operated under reverse bias and mounted in series with a resistor, with the voltage tap taken across the resistor. Increasing the reverse voltage reduces switching time, enabling the SFH250 to support data rates up to 100MBd. SFH series components are optimized for easy coupling — no fiber stripping is required; simply insert the cleaved fiber end into the selected SFH component. The clear plastic housing features an aperture for inserting a 2.2mm fiber end face, making this simple coupling method highly cost-effective. The V-type housing allows easy coupling of connectorless 2.2mm polymer optical fiber via an axial locking screw.
