Introduction
The HFBR-1525EZ transmitter is an LED in a low-cost plastic housing designed to efficiently couple power into 200 μm diameter hard-clad silica fiber and 1 mm diameter plastic optical fiber. The HFBR-2525EZ receiver integrates a PIN detector and a digital output IC compatible with CMOS and TTL logic families. The HFBR-1525EZ/HFBR-2525EZ link operates at rates from DC to 12 MBd, with transmission distances up to 50 meters using 1 mm plastic optical fiber and up to 500 meters using 200 μm hard-clad silica fiber. When using the recommended circuit, no minimum link distance needs to be specified, simplifying design. Universal link components can be interlocked together to save space and provide duplex connections via duplex connectors. Up to eight packages can be interlocked and inserted into a PCB. Plastic optical fiber and hard-clad silica fiber are available in pre-connectorized lengths and can also be easily field-terminated. A single transmitter drive current for both plastic optical fiber and hard-clad silica fiber allows a single design to be compatible with both fiber types.
