Introduction
The TL494 device integrates all the functions required to build a pulse-width modulation (PWM) control circuit on a single chip. This device is mainly designed for power supply control and can flexibly customize the power supply control circuit according to specific applications. The TL494 device includes two error amplifiers, an on-chip adjustable oscillator, a dead-time control (DTC) comparator, a pulse steering control flip-flop, a 5V regulator with 5% accuracy, and some output control circuits. The common-mode voltage range of the error amplifiers is from –0.3V to VCC - 2V. The dead-time control comparator has a fixed offset voltage, which can provide approximately 5% dead time. The on-chip oscillator can be bypassed by connecting the RT terminal to the reference output and providing a sawtooth input to CT, or it can drive the common circuit in a synchronous multi-rail power supply. The non-limited output transistors provide common-emitter or emitter-follower output capabilities. The TL494 device offers push-pull or single-ended output modes, which can be selected through the output control function. The architecture of this device eliminates the possibility of double pulsing on either output during push-pull operation. The rated operating temperature range of the TL494 device is from 0°C to 70°C. The rated operating temperature range of the TL494I device is from –40°C to 85°C.
