Introduction
The DRV10970 is an integrated three-phase BLDC motor driver suitable for household appliances, cooling fans, and other general motor control applications. This device features built-in intelligent characteristics, a compact form factor, and a simple pin distribution structure. It not only reduces design complexity and saves board space but also lowers system cost. The integrated protection functions enhance the system's robustness and reliability.
The output stage of the DRV10970 consists of three half-bridges with an RDSON of 400 mΩ (H+L). Each half-bridge can drive an output current of up to 1A RMS and 1.5A peak. When the device enters sleep mode, the typical current consumption is 35 μA.
The device incorporates an advanced 180° sinusoidal commutation algorithm, enabling high efficiency, low torque ripple, and excellent acoustic performance. The adaptive drive angle adjustment function ensures optimal efficiency under any motor parameters and load conditions.
The DRV10970 is designed for applications based on differential or single-ended Hall sensors. The differential Hall signal input is detected by an integrated comparator. The device supports applications based on three Hall sensors and a single Hall sensor. The single-Hall sensor mode reduces system cost by eliminating two Hall sensors.
The device implements a standard control interface, including a pulse-width modulation (PWM) input (speed command), an FG output (speed feedback), an FR input (forward and reverse control), and an RD output (motor lock indication).
The DRV10970 device supports placing Hall sensors at 30° and 0° (relative to the BEMF of the corresponding phase). The device implements a trapezoidal drive mode to meet higher power requirements.
The DRV10970 device determines rotor lock based on whether the Hall sensor input switches states. The device will retry rotating the motor after an adjustable automatic retry time (configurable via a capacitor connected to the RETRY pin).
The device includes various protection functions to enhance system robustness: overcurrent protection, undervoltage protection, overheat protection, and rotor lock detection and reporting.
The DRV10970 is available in a thermally enhanced 24-pin thin shrink small outline package (TSSOP) (environmentally friendly: RoHS compliant and Sb/Br free).
